The Great Christmas Debate

 charlie-and-tree.jpeg grinch.jpeg

Likely the most important question posed on any blog at any time, which is the best animated Christmas story of all time?  The Grinch or Charlie Brown?

I know there are many others that are quite good – Rudolph, Frosty and Santa Claus is Coming to Town, to name a few, but I’d like to narrow it down to these two.  And, to avoid any confusion, I’m talking about the cartoon version of the Grinch (the classic) and not Ron Howard’s live-action version. The name of one of my dogs gives away my preference, so I’ll refrain from voting.

  1. Awesome poll, although I’m fairly sure you’re only going to get one answer – it’s so obviously the Grinch.

  3. Yea, Shelby! I’ve got to lob in a vote for Charlie Brown. Linus’ soliloquy? Classic.

  4. Can I vote even if I’m not adopting? Just found your blog thru google, and I’ve got to give Seuss the nod. Is there really a controversy in the adoption world about this? no brainer to me.

  5. Charlie Brown (the eternal underdog) gets my vote! I LOVE Snoopy so there is no way I could vote for anything else! But seriously, I do love this story. It’s simple and has a really great message about what’s most important during the holidays!

  7. Finally, a blog focused on the big issues. Kids don’t even know who Charlie Brown is. The Grinch is the clear choice. Thanks for getting the word out.

  8. “And the Grinch, with his Grinch-feet ice cold in the snow, stood puzzling and puzzling, how could it be so? It came without ribbons. It came without tags. It came without packages, boxes or bags. And he puzzled and puzzled ’till his puzzler was sore. Then the Grinch thought of something he hadn’t before. What if Christmas, he thought, doesn’t come from a store.
What if Christmas, perhaps, means a little bit more.”

  14. You know, I’ve always been a huge fan of the Grinch, but I’ve just watched the end of Charlie Brown, and I’ve gotta say, it surprised me how much I liked it this year. The scraggly tree always gets me, with Linus reinforcing it with his security blanket. If I were comparing the last ten minutes only, I think Charlie Brown would win, but as a 30-minute work, I’m going to have to stick with the Grinch (and Max).
