So, I’ve decided to give these gDiapers a shot. They’re almost a hybrid of a cotton diaper and a disposable. The outer layer is cloth, but it has an inner liner that can be taken out and flushed.

I first read about them in Vanity Fair last fall, where Julia Roberts mentioned she was using them for her youngest child. If only the actually had a photo of Ms. Roberts flushing the inner liner with the special stick the company provides. Would’ve been priceless.

I’ve heard somewhat mixed reviews, most of which were negative in respect of overnight leaking. They certainly do not seem to be as convenient as disposables, either, but given the sheer number of diapers going into landfills and the amount of time it takes them to break down, I’ve been feeling a bit guilty about even the idea of using them. I suspect I’ll use a combination of the two, and I’m buying enough of the g-pants (the solid color cotton pants (that do NOT come in winnie the pooh prints)) that I should be able to prep enough for the day ahead. But I think I need to be somewhat realistic in this and realize that, even if I do use the disposables periodically, any decrease in the number of disposables I would have been using is a good thing. We’ll see how it goes.

I also decided to go with glass bottles. I’ve been bothered by the reports of chemicals leaching from plastic bottles (although I have no idea what the health implications of this are), and again I don’t like the idea of continually using the disposable liners (convenient as they may be and as lazy as I am). I’m also thinking of buying either those silicone Siliskins or the Wee-Go bottles. Both are pricey (Siliskins are a bit cheaper, but less convenient since you need to buy the bottles separately – BUT, you can get Wee-Gos at scandinucci for $3 off per bottle right now), but I am fairly clumsy at times and even though Evenflow says the glass is safe, I’m still a bit concerned about breakage.

We are going to use g-diapers during the day and huggies overnights once Tori is sleeping through the night. I like the g diapers because you can use the pre-fold cloth in them as well.

Also- Born Free makes a plastic but safe bottle, you can find it on their website. We are going to use the glass ones.

I am going back and forth about the gdiapers. I may buy a couple and give it a try, but I will mose definitly be using disposables overnight. Ive been ther, and even the most absorbemt diapers soemtimes cant take a whole night without leaking, so I doubt the g’s can handle it. Thanks for the info on the cool glass bottles..I will check those out.

Ok, I bought the starter pack of gDiapers and I think it’s doable (during the day at least). We’ll see if this opinion holds firm when I actually have some on the ground training regarding dirty diapers.

Also bought the Wee Go bottles. Super cute and resilient. I dropped them on both marble and concrete with no damage (although, truth told, I’m not going to use the test bottle). I suspect I bought too many, but they look adorable on the shelf.
