Is this normal?
My child loves money. Loves it. If I were to give it to him to actually play with, it would likely be his favorite toy. One of his favorite thing to do is to reach into my purse and pull all of the cash out, throw it around him on the floor and wave it around his face. Why is he so interested in this? It can’t be because he sees me with money and became interested in it as a result. I almost never use cash. I just don’t get it.
And lest you think this is just a one-time occurrence, he pulled this sort of thing back when we were in Vietnam as well…

I think it’s normal. Nate LOVES money. Most kids like to play with money; they have play money in stores that you can buy. Nate’s kindergarten teacher said the “store” area with the money was one of the most popular places in her classroom.
The play money you can buy in the stores is great. Melissa and Doug have an awesome play money set that we gave to one of Nate’s friends for her third birthday.
Nate, at 6, has his own money now, and his own safe box after he saw a safe box where I work and thought it was the coolest thing ever.
Okay, seriously. I cannot, absolutely CANNOT get over how cute he is (which I realize was not the point of this, but Oh my!, I’m sure you wouldn’t mind me commenting on that!
)
When my daughter was about 20 months old she played with a single dollar bill and a small piece of rope, and that was it, for a solid week! I figured, hey, that was a pretty cheap toy! Cost me one dollar!
Enjoy his fascination now because it’s kind of sad when they get older and start to loose interest in the novelty of simple things.
That’s funny! I don’t think I’ve ever given my kids money to play with, but my daughter was so hard on her books, that I guess I would have been afraid she’d rip it all to shreds.
