A big day

How did the little guy celebrate being on this earth for 19 months?  By taking off his pants and feeding himself some yogurt from a spoon all by himself.  No, he didn’t do these things at the same time.  That would just be strange.  The pants thing is a little worrying, since I understand the next thing he’ll strip off will be his diaper, but feeding himself with a spoon is huge.  Sure, lots of kids do this by the time they’re a year old or a little older, but this apparently falls into the fine motor skills area, where we have a bit of a delay.  Have to say that I’m a little sad that he’s learned that the primary use of a spoon is not just to be a weapon.

I’m afraid

it might be time to actually take the child to one of those places where people pay to have their kids’ beautiful baby hair chopped off.  You know, those places where kids sit in little cars in a misguided attempt at diverting their attention?  I’ve taken a pair of scissors to it twice (which might explain why it looks like this), but I’m still finding myself wanting to hold off on the inevitable bowl or buzz cut.  Surely sporting long locks a few more months won’t be damaging to his psyche, right?

Go figure

I don’t hate my dogs anymore.  I don’t know when it happened, but I actually like them.  This is quite a feat given the nastiness they get themselves into each day.  I think they’re still acting out a little, but they’re becoming really sweet around Oscar.  I think that was the turning point.  Oscar loves them, therefore I love them, too.  Who would’ve thought it would happen?

Saw that coming

Well, sort of.  We went to a great birthday party on Sunday for a two year old little boy we met while we were waiting in VN.  He’s utterly adorable.  About 10 minutes into the party, a couple sat down near me and started talking about how they had “quarantined” themselves the previous day because of their kids’ projectile vomiting.  My first reaction was to pick up my child and run, run like the wind.  But I thought it would be rude, and I really wanted to stick around.  I also figured that whatever their kids had had, was probably what Oscar had a couple of weeks ago.  Wrong.  So wrong.  So disgustingly wrong.

Oscar, of course, got it first, but I have it now as well.  Not sure whether we had already been exposed when I second guessed myself, but I’m certainly kicking myself now.
