The shame

Okay, it’s become clear to me that perhaps I was a bit lax on my Easter bunny duties.  “Lax” meaning entirely incompetent.  Honestly, I didn’t even give it a thought.  I was working all week, including 18 hours on Saturday and we had technically gone to an Easter egg hunt the week before (big mistake), so I didn’t really think the whole bunny and candy thing was a big deal.

Imagine my surprise this morning when I was deluged by email messages attaching adorable photos of cute little kids Oscar’s age (and YOUNGER) in their beautiful Easter attire with their perfectly adorned (and stuffed) baskets full of toys and candy.  I didn’t even know that the bunny is supposed to visit your house like Santa does, let alone give the poor kid candy.  I mean, I did drive through McDon@ld’s yesterday while Oscar was napping after the zoo and buy some chocolate chip cookies, but I’m going to go ahead and guess that doesn’t count.  One of my secretaries even tried to make me feel better by saying Oscar wouldn’t even remember this (implying that it would have been a huge mistake had been a little older).  Jeez, I figured the whole Easter day thing was a bigger deal for kids a little older, who could appreciate dying eggs and what not.  I learned my lesson, though.  I vow to take holidays more seriously.  I am going to rock Earth Day like you’ve never seen.  Game on, people.  Game on.

  2. I have faith in your earth day festivities! My husband used the exact line about “I didn’t know The Easter Bunny was supposed to be like Santa Claus!” to me. Apparently the Easter Bunny never came to his house. They went to church, had a big lunch and then his parents were like “hey kids, we hid some eggs if you want to go look for them”. But there was no mystic Easter Bunny at their house. He has been informed that there IS an Easter Bunny at our house. But this is the first year we did the full on Easter morning hunt..and my daughter is 3. Next year, just tell Oscar “remember how the Eater Bunny comes like last year?!” and he’ll be none the wiser.

  3. We were all sick. We are “staging” an egg hunt and basket for pictures next weekend. Beauty of blogging is that you can “post-date” a post. Our kids will never know!

  4. I didn’t do that much either. I gave Jacob a basket with a bag of M&M’s, a truck, play do and a chocolate bunny. The funny thing was I got up Easter morning and forgot all about it until we went down stairs and it dawned on me to give him his basket. Then I had to search the house to find my camera. All my nieces wore their pretty easter dresses and we showed up in khaki’s and a tshirt. my mom did ask why he was not dressed up? He has a matching outfit to all the girls dresses. Oops! It was a casual cook out at my brothers!

  5. THe only reason we did our thing was because I grew up doing it, and as a teacher in a poor area for years, I always had major stuff for my students. Incidently, dyeing eggs was probably my favorite thing I did with Katie-even more fun than her little hunt. Hilarious. Don’t feel bad though-it honestly IS impossible for the kids to understand what is going on really…but next year? He’ll get it, so get with it! LOL. And now I leave you with an Easter joke that was told to me by a third grader (really! Didn’t know what to do except call him on the bad language-when he left I laughed so hard!):
“Why does the Easter bunny hide his eggs?
Because he’s embarrassed that he —-ed a chicken.”

  6. Sitting in Tapei – again, but this time with a sleeping baby girl!! She has been great so far, so fingers crossed on the long leg. Btw, she is a ham, so between her and her brother it will be a circus at our house. I can’t wait for the two to meet!!!

  7. We did not do the egg dye this year. I just didn’t think Lili would get it this year. We did do the Easter basket though. Of course Lili is my 4th child, so I’ve had years of practice.

Love the ‘Earth Day’ idea :-) LOL!!!! Seriously, it made me laugh out loud.

  8. you’re soooo funny!! I don’t know if it will make you feel any better, but I started buying ‘Easter stuff’ in late February! (this was going to be my son’s first easter home with me!) I couldn’t stop buying ‘stuff’…candy, movies, etc. I tie-dyed the easter eggs for him. Lo and Behold he was SOOOO sick on Easter morning! He couldn’t have cared less! He looked at his pristine easter basket–just LOOKED at it. and as for the eggs….they weren’t a hit either! So, I’m with some of the other people that commented. The zoo and McD’s the day before was GREAT!!! Rock Earth Day!! Love it!
