Precious moments
Don’t you just love those special moments when you’re sitting with your child, looking into each others eyes like on a television commercial? I’ve had, oh, probably two or three of those moments, although mine always seem to end a little differently than you think they do on t.v.
A week or so ago, Oscar and I were sitting on the floor. He was on my lap looking at me, holding my face and leaning in to give me a little kiss. He makes the most adorable little noise when he’s being sweet to me – when he gives me his favorite stuffed animal (his pink pig) to kiss or when he’s giving me his partially masticated breakfast to share (only if it’s particularly yummy and gooey).
So, he’s sitting there, leaning in, making the sweet noise and giving me a tiny little kiss. He leans back and does it again. And I’m thinking, oh, my sweet little boy. Isn’t he just the most precious thing ever?!? He leans back a third time, much further this time, all smiles, holding my face, rocks forward with all the force he can muster, drops his head down and head butts me in the nose so hard that I fall over. He’s laughing his butt off, I’m literally seeing stars and am so dizzy I cannot get up. Then the little monster tries to pull me up to do it again, signing “more, more, more.” By this time, I’m actually nauseous, but I don’t want him to freak out so I ask him to go get the ball from the other room. I manage to sit up and my face is throbbing. I touch my nose and almost start crying, it hurts so badly. Thankfully, my attempted diversion worked and Oscar is chasing a ball around the hallway, so all is well in his world.
I bring this up today because I have just returned from my second visit to my doctor as a result of our special family moment. I went in a couple of days after the “incident” because my nose was still swollen and hurt every time I washed my face or even when I was lying in bed on my side. The reason? Yeah, it was broken. My son, who is not yet two years old, broke my nose. What tops that? He did it again. This morning we were lying in my bed and he started throwing a tantrum (he wanted his milk in a bottle so he could lie down and he got it in a cup with a straw) and ended up kicking me in the nose. The same nose that was already broken and starting to heal. Good times.

OMG there was JUST an article my husband sent me on parental injuries! I Am so sorry you are one of them. I hope you feel better!!!
Ouch! I am so sorry.
Here’s a more humiliating way to break your nose:
My mom had been out one New Year’s Eve and wasn’t feeling well the next day. She still had her Santa Claus toilet seat cover on the pot. The cover was thick and somtimes it would cause the lid to fall down, which is what happened at the exact moment she was driving the porcelain bus.
I’m sure she would be very pleased to know that I just shared that story.
Oh man, Aiden has come close to knocking a tooth out- they are strong! Hope it heals soon.
Oh my goodness. Cecilia head butts my sternum, almost everynight we read books, but so far its only been that. My sincere apologies and hope for healing fast!
Holy CRAP! Are you kidding me?! I hope to God they prescribed some serious pain pills, because this happened to me in College, and the pain is almost unbearable. No more sweet nothing moments with your child until you heal-I hope you told him how much it hurt!!!!
You poor thing! That’s terrible. I just had a near miss myself, my girl decided it was funny to hit this week and when I told her no, decided head butting was the appropriate alternative. She just missed my nose, I got it on the chin. Strange, I just read that darn article too on toddlers causing parental injuries. I think its good to let kids know when they hurt you, teaches them empathy, otherwise they just think its funny. Little squirts just don’t know. Hope you got some decent meds!
That just totally sucks – hope you heal quickly! I have a lacrosse helmet complete with mask if you’d like me to ship it to you for upcoming “special moments”
Best,
Laura
So sorry he got you! My little one has done some damage around here as well. She thinks it’s hilarious to kick Dada in the you know where when he is trying to change her diaper! Fortunately I don’t have that issue to worry about. However she has gotten me on the check bone once that caused swelling and bruising…looked like I had a wife beater for a husband. Almost went to the doctor thinking I had fractured a bone but it finally healed. Also she got me with her foot (her toenail no less) in the eye with a full kick (I was laying on the floor if you’re wondering how that could happen)…scratched my eye with her toenail. That one hurt so bad I immediately screamed and started to cry…I couldn’t help it as it was just my first reaction. She of course stopped being crazy and got all concerned and starting trying to give me love. I signed that I was hurt and pointed to my eye and told her she needs to be careful. I think she kind of understood but who knows. Oh the joys of being a parent…nobody told me you had to know defensive training to survive this!
